Our StoryWhen Jim Skane, Sr. founded Matchmaker Transportation Services in 1981, he was a National Account Representative for Cooper Jarrett, a regional LTL carrier. With the onset of deregulation, Jim. Sr. saw what he felt was an opportunity to fill a void in the marketplace and started Matchmaker out of his home in Trumbull, CT. That void in the marketplace needed a logistics company that could assist trucking companies by finding backhaul loads and reducing dead head miles. In the end, Jim, Sr. knew the shippers would benefit by gaining access to a greater supply of competitively priced transportation. With all of this in mind, he used his 20+ years of experience in transportation sales to establish corporate contacts and build a thriving business. His plans were sound. They were so sound, in fact, that his wife, Eileen, left her career as a realtor to help him fulfill his vision. As a result of all their work and sacrifice, Matchmaker Transportation was born and was built on the foundation of creating win-win-win situations for its clients. Every party involved must benefit from the transaction and the business to be successful. Jim Sr. instilled this philosophy in his two sons, who joined the Matchmaker team a few years after its inception. Jim Skane Jr. began working for the company in 1985 to assist in operations. Bob Skane started in 1987 after graduating college. In 1990, the Skane family relocated the business to Wilmington, North Carolina to reduce operating costs and improve the quality of their lives. In 1995, Jim, Sr. announced his retirement. Jim Jr. currently serves as President, devoting his energy to building relationships with clients, while Bob serves as Vice President and oversees daily operations. The brothers are co-owners of Matchmaker, which has doubled in size under their leadership. In September 2000, they built a new office to accommodate the professional resources for their employees and the rapidly expanding business in general. | ||
