Matchmaker awarded SmartWay Partner by EPA!There is some debate about global warming and the effects of greenhouse type gases on the environment.What should not be at debate is the philosophy that we should protect the environment for future generations.At Matchmaker Transportation we are striving to do our part to reduce fuel consumption and improve our air quality for future generations.The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2004 created a great tool to allow both asset and non-asset based companies to contribute to the reduction in transportation-related emissions.According to the EPA’s website, “the SmartWay brand signifies a partnership among government, business and consumers to protect our environment, reduce fuel consumption, and improve our air quality for future generations”.Matchmaker applied for SmartWay Partnership status in December 2008.After carefully scrutinizing each carrier that Matchmaker tendered a shipment to in 2008, the company earned a SmartWay Score of 0.51.In general, the better the environmental performance of our service providers, the better the SmartWay score will be.Matchmaker has set a goal of raising the SmartWay Score to 1.00 for 2009!If you are interested in becoming a SmartWay Partner you can find more information at www.epa.gov/smartway/index.htm.
